What Is Double Cleansing And How To Do It Right

Have you heard of or tried double cleaning? The technique consists of, as the name suggests, a two-step facial cleansing to make sure all dirt, makeup, and sunscreen particles are removed successfully. Below, you will learn its benefits and how to properly do it!

WHAT IS DOUBLE CLEANSING?

The method originated in Korea and Japan – surprisingly enough – back in the 14th century! Back then, double cleansing proved super helpful in removing the white paint-like foundation women traditionally wore. Besides offering a complete cleansing, it helps reduce the risk of developing allergies, acne, and clogged pores, common signs of not-so-spotless skin.

HOW TO DOUBLE CLEANSE?

For double cleansing, you will need two products:

1ST STEP: CLEANSING OIL

During the first step, you apply a cleansing oil to your face – we recommend our 100% natural BBA Oil or Rosehip Oil. It will remove larger makeup and pollution residues that a soap alone wouldn’t. Even people with oily and acne-prone skin can benefit from it: the oil-based product will help dissolve and remove the mostly oily impurities from deep within the pores (just make sure you are using a non-comedogenic formula, like the ones mentioned above).

2ND STEP: WATER-BASED CLEANSER

Rinse off the cleansing oil and move on to the water-based product. Here, we recommend our Glycolic Acid Cleanser, which also helps reduce large pores and stimulates cellular renewal. Use it to wash your face, and then rinse off with water. The foam will penetrate deeper into the skin to remove the remaining unwanted particles.

This is an especially crucial step since it prepares you for other skincare products. Your serums and oils and any other items you like to include in your routine will penetrate and affect your skin better. Thus delivering more visible results.

THE “ORIGINAL” DOUBLE CLEANSING

The original Korean double cleansing is accomplished without rinsing off the products. They are removed only with the assistance of a wet towel. One possible undesirable consequence, if done daily, is the build-up of products on the skin that can lead to the clogging of pores and increased oily shine and acne.

That’s why, if you wish to adopt the double cleansing method into your skin regimen, we recommend you use water to rinse off the second-step cleanser. Try it and see how you feel. If anything, later you can go old school.
