Simple Organic Offsets TIM Music Rio's Carbon Emissions

Much more than cosmetics, we are a positive impact brand. And we're back joining music festivals in Brazil, this time, with an unprecedented initiative: to neutralize the CO2 emitted by the Tim Music Rio. The free festival takes place on world-famous Copacabana Beach. Check this out!

SIMPLE ORGANIC AT THE TIM MUSIC RIO: KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT OUR CO2-NEUTRALIZATION EFFORT

Simple Organic Offsets TIM Music Rio's Carbon FootprintTim Music Rio is the largest free music festival in Brazil. The 2023 edition took place over two weekends: on May 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th. The event is sponsored by Tim, a Brazilian phone carrier, and has not-to-be-missed attractions in the heart of Rio de Janeiro.

We here at Simple Organic believe music is a tool for the democratization of culture, and for this reason, playing a role in a free festival was very important for us.

Because we share the same ideals, Tim invited us to participate in the Festival, and what started as a simple conversation turned out to become a super special and unique project. In an unprecedented initiative, we took responsibility for neutralizing the CO2 emitted by the Festival to minimize the event's environmental impact.

The offsetting is done through the regenerative planting of Brazilian agroforestry areas.

WHAT IS CARBON OFFSET?

Simple Organic Offsets TIM Music Rio's Carbon FootprintFrom giant industrial productions to simply riding a car, our day-to-day activities emit CO2 - one of the greenhouse gases, aggravator of global warming. In order to reduce this, it's possible to offset carbon emissions through artificial and natural processes.

One of the most common ways to neutralize CO2 is through planting trees. They have the capacity to absorb the emitted CO2 and keep it in their biomass, a process called carbon sink.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROPORTIONS TO OFFSET CARBON THROUGH REGENERATIVE PLANTING

The equivalence for neutralization considers that: 1 ton of CO2 emitted = planting seven trees.

Experts explain: "This is a safely estimated equivalence, for precaution. In reality, a tree captures more CO2 than this calculation considers, so it's like there are extra trees".

WHICH ACTIVITIES WERE NEUTRALIZED?

Simple Organic Offsets TIM Music Rio's Carbon FootprintThe offset of the event's carbon footprint considers pre-assembly, the event itself, and post-assembly, taking into account the following operations:

  • Electric energy consumed;
  • Logistics of staff and artists (by air and land);
  • Number of staff;
  • Assembling and disassembling of the entire structure;
  • Management of solid waste.

YOU COULD ALSO CALCULATE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT IN THE FESTIVAL

During the event, a QR Code was available for the audience, which took them to a carbon footprint calculator, where each person could calculate their emitted footprint.

Moreover, our carbon neutralization has a certificate with a trackable QR code, which shows the location of the regenerative planting for the event's CO2 offset.
