Facing the climate crisis requires a fast and collective effort. We all need to transform words into actions and work together if we hope to contain the advances of the climate crisis. That's what COP27 representatives say. The event, the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, gathered world leaders to discuss and act against the climate crisis.

WHAT IS COP27?

The United Nations Climate Change Conference is a decisive moment in the fight against environmental changes.

In November 2022, Egypt hosted the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, intending to develop the next steps in the fight against climate change.

The event took place during a delicate world conjuncture, in which we recognize the gravity of the challenges ahead, considering how fast the average global temperature is increasing and the high frequency of natural disasters.

Recent reports by the IPCC highlighted the gravity of the climate crisis and the need for immediate and sustained political will, impactful action, and worldwide cooperation.

SIMPLE ORGANIC + COP27: WHAT IS OUR ROLE?

Patricia Lima, founder and CEO of Simple Organic, was invited to participate in the UN climate meeting to discuss sustainability in the beauty sector.

Patricia describes the invitation as a shock: "You know that accomplishment that is not only personal but professional too? The UN is seeing this work", she said on the Entre no Clima podcast, a Brazilian podcast about environmental protection.

Invited to speak at the event about Simple Organic's commitment to a more responsible, transparent, and sustainable production and, of course, the beauty industry's role in this collective effort, Patricia observes: "It is a battle to talk about sustainability in Brazil".

While citing daily obstacles such as the lack of tax incentives and even finding companies that practice greenwashing, Patricia agrees that we have significant challenges to change the world.

SIMPLE ORGANIC - REAL CLEAN BEAUTY

Since it was founded back in 2017, the brand has had sustainability as the driving force behind all its actions. Simple Organic is the first beauty brand with the Eu Reciclo label [I Recycle in English], given by the award-winning Brazilian initiative of the same name. The label guarantees the recycling of 100% of packaging waste, offsetting its impact on the world.

All Simple Organic stores in Brazil have a reverse logistics system for its containers. Additionally, the CO2 emitted by the production chain is neutralized and offset by the planting of trees.

In 2022, we also launched the Simple Bag, our 100% biodegradable and water-soluble bag which generates no toxic residues and even serves as food for microorganisms.

Participating in impactful events such as COP27 shows Simple Organic's substantial role in the sustainability world. It's immensely gratifying to see that we are indeed much more than a brand. We are a movement!
