Vitamin C
Vitamin C
Ascorbic acid, better known as vitamin C, is a hydrosoluble vitamin frequently used in cosmetic formulas due to its therapeutic and beneficial properties for the skin.
The usage of ascorbic acid in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals is limited, on account of its high risk of oxidation when in contact with light, oxygen, and high temperatures. In its free form, ascorbic acid can be irreversibly oxidated to oxalic acid, thus losing its therapeutical properties. Alteration in colour and smell are signs of oxidation and loss of the Vitamin C’s activity.
WHY DOESN’T SIMPLE ORGANIC’S VITAMIN C OXYDATE?
At Simple Organic we use a stabilized form of certificated Vitamin C, composed by the association of natural Vitamin C to a Glucose molecule derived from sorbitol fermentation, extracted from potato and manioc starch. This is accomplished by an enzymatic process, the Ascorbyl Glucoside.
Acorbyl Glucosyde provides greater stability to the formulation, resisting colour alteration and degradation, therefore not oxidating.
Even though it is derived from Vitamin C, the used form does not have inferior results. When in contact with the skin, the Ascorbyl Glucoside is hydrolized by an enzyme present on the cell membrane, liberating Vitamin C in its active form. Since this a prolonged hydrolysis process, Vitamin C is liberated gradually and in prolonged way.
VITAMIN C FOR THE FACE
Free radicals that are formed on the skin, especially during sunlight exposure, are the main source of cutaneous aging. By being a powerful natural oxidant, vitamin c acts as a “sweeper” of free radicals, acting as pro-age, preventing aging signs and reducing the inflammation and roughness of the skin when damaged by excessive UV exposure.
By diminishing the synthesis of melanin in the melanocytes, and reducing the pre-existent quantity of melanin, it gives the skin a more uniform tonality, lighter, young, and healthy.
Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant that showcases the following properties:
- Antioxidant activity: vitamin C fights free radicals, which are the main source of cutaneous aging. It builds a natural, efficient shield that minimizes the daily aggressions (free radicals, UV rays, and stress).
- Skin tone uniformization: reduction of hyperpigmentation of the skin and patches prevention.
- Increased sustentation and flexibility: Stimulates the synthesis and strengthens the collagen fibers, giving support and flexibility to the skin.
